Environment and energy management at the WKS Group

All WKS Group production sites operate an integrated environment and energy management system. In addition, we are working to certify each of our sites according to the so-called EMAS standard.

What is EMAS?

EMAS is the acronym for the Eco-Management and Audit Scheme which was developed by the European Union. The aim of EMAS is to enable all organisations wanting to improve their environmental performance to operate a common environmental management and audit system. For this reason, EMAS contains all aspects of the DIN EN ISO 14 001 environmental management system.

When the certificate is awarded, we are audited, among other things, on the continual improvement of our environmental performance and the involvement of our employees in the management system. Some of the key indicators are, for example, our efficiency ratings in the areas of energy, materials, and waste. As part of EMAS, all indicators relating to emissions, biodiversity, water, and sewage are, of course, also considered. We take our individual responsibility extremely seriously and regularly take stock of our progress. In this way, we provide evidence that the WKS Group is continuously improving its environmental protection performance.

Energy management according
to DIN EN ISO 50 001

But we don’t stop there! As part of our energy management according to DIN EN ISO 50 001, we monitor all our energy processes very closely. Their optimisation allows us to make lasting improvements to the WKS Group’s energy-related performance. Our goal is to lower our specific energy consumption to contribute further to climate protection. We wish to operate our printing companies efficiently and in an environmentally friendly manner and compile annual CO₂ footprints. We use this data to develop initiatives for reducing our CO₂ emissions.

Recognition

To underline our commitment, we compensate for all CO₂ emissions that occur at WKS Print Partner GmbH, our administrative and sales company, by supporting the climate protection project ‘Energieeffizienz NRW’ (‘Energy Efficiency North Rhine-Westphalia’). WKS Print Partner has been recognised as a climate-neutral company already since 2018 – a further milestone on our journey towards sustainable and efficient climate protection.
